Would you like help creating a limited liability company (LLC), but you don’t know where to turn for help?
This MyCompanyWorks vs IncFile LLC service comparison summarizes the strengths and weaknesses of each company relative to the other. There are many areas where these services overlap, but they have plenty of important differences as well. Let’s find out which one is the best fit for your new LLC.
Do MyCompanyWorks and IncFile Offer Good Value?
|🥇IncFile||Starts at $0||(4.8/5)||Excellent||Absolutely|
|MyCompanyWorks||Starts at $79||(4.2/5)||Fair||Sometimes|
MyCompanyWorks and IncFile are both reputable companies offering reliable LLC formation services online, and we think you’ll be quite satisfied with either one. However, in our opinion, IncFile has some advantages that make them the preferred choice for most of our readers.
Most importantly, IncFile’s base rate of $0 is considerably cheaper than the $79 price point offered by MyCompanyWorks. Furthermore, IncFile includes a full year of registered agent service, a feature MyCompanyWorks only adds to its top-tier LLC formation package.
However, in general, MyCompanyWorks is a good quality IncFile alternative – if that’s something you’re factoring into your decision.
If you’re not quite ready to make your decision yet, read on to discover the main commonalities and differences between these two highly respected LLC services.
6 Things They Have In Common
1) Affordable: Both of these online LLC service providers are much more affordable than hiring a traditional law firm to draft and file your articles of organization. By using MyCompanyWorks or IncFile, you’ll save hundreds of dollars over hiring a lawyer.
2) Customer Support: Even though you’ll be saving money, you’re still not going it alone. These companies both have experienced and knowledgeable customer support representatives who can help answer your tough questions.
3) Additional Services: Do you need registered agent service, a federal tax ID number (EIN), a doing business as (DBA) name, etc.? These companies both offer many other business solutions beyond just helping you form your new LLC.
4) Experience: These providers have plenty of experience in the LLC service industry. IncFile and MyCompanyWorks each serve thousands of businesses every year, and their ability to effectively and efficiently form your LLC is unquestioned.
5) Great Customer Reviews: Both IncFile and MyCompanyWorks get fantastic feedback from their customers. Both services have thousands of reviews all over the web, and they maintain high average ratings on all third-party review sites.
6) Efficiency: Need your company formed in a hurry? No problem! MyCompanyWorks and IncFile have expediting options that can cut your turnaround times down from weeks to mere days. There’s an added cost to expediting your order, but it can be worth it if you’re in a time crunch.
Side by Side Comparisons
IncFile’s base rate of $0 + state fee for LLC formation service is considerably cheaper than the MyCompanyWorks baseline price point of $79 + state fee. (See Details)
Of course, everyone would rather pay nothing (except your state fee) than $79. But this is actually just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the advantages IncFile holds over MyCompanyWorks. When you examine the features that each company includes — as we’re about to do — you’ll realize that MyCompanyWorks actually provides less valuable features in their $79 package than IncFile offers for free.
IncFile includes a full year of registered agent service with all of their LLC service packages, but MyCompanyWorks only includes registered agent service with their most expensive formation package. On the other hand, MyCompanyWorks offers a custom operating agreement with any LLC formation, whereas IncFile only includes this important document in their higher-cost formation packages.
An operating agreement is a nice feature, especially seeing as we recommend that all of our readers draft one for their LLCs. However, providing an operating agreement isn’t as valuable as providing 12 months of registered agent service, which we also widely recommend. At this point, it’s probably becoming quite clear why we prefer IncFile, as they provide more value while also saving you $79 compared to MyCompanyWorks.
IncFile has helped form more than 500,000 businesses since it opened in 2004, giving them a significant experience advantage in this competition. MyCompanyWorks has 60,000+ business formations since opening in 2001.
MyCompanyWorks responds to most calls and emails received during business hours within just 20 minutes. That’s a significant advantage over IncFile, which is generally easy to get ahold of as well, but we have waited over 24 hours to hear back from IncFile by phone before, and their email support can take even longer. We have actually sent IncFile several messages through their online contact form that they simply never replied to. Both companies do have knowledgeable and friendly service reps.
As for hours of operation, they’re nearly identical. IncFile is open from 10 am to 7 pm ET Monday through Friday, while MyCompanyWorks is available from 11 am to 7 pm ET on weekdays.
Processing times for LLC formation with both MyCompanyWorks and IncFile vary by state, but it does seem like MyCompanyWorks is slightly quicker more often than not. Both companies offer rush filing, with prices that also vary depending on your state of formation — in some states, MyCompanyWorks has cheaper expediting, but IncFile beats their prices in others. We recommend checking both sites for your specific state estimates.
MyCompanyWorks notifies you via email when they have status updates for you. On the other hand, IncFile goes a step further, with a real-time order status tracking tool on their website.
Registered Agent Service
Every LLC in America is required to designate a registered agent, which is a person or professional service that receives important document deliveries (like service of process) from your state government, informs you of the receipt, then forwards the documents to you. This is so crucial because the state needs to have a reliable means of contacting your business at any time.
As we mentioned earlier, IncFile bundles a full year of registered agent service with any LLC formation package, while MyCompanyWorks only includes a year of registered agent service with their most expensive package. After that free first year, MyCompanyWorks has the advantage because they charge only $99 per year, whereas IncFile charges $119.
Both of these providers have thousands of customer reviews available online. Customer feedback is a big pro for MyCompanyWorks and IncFile, as they both maintain high average rating scores even with such a large volume of reviews. These companies both have high levels of customer satisfaction, although we will point out that IncFile has a much higher volume of feedback, with roughly 27,000 reviews compared to around 3,700 for MyCompanyWorks.
Ease of Use
MyCompanyWorks and IncFile feature convenient business services that can be purchased online. Most of their business solutions can also be executed entirely online. Both companies have user-friendly websites full of good information. They are equal in this area.
When it comes to their additional services, there’s plenty of overlap between these two companies, as they both provide common features like registered agent service, doing business as (DBA) names, annual reports, and more. In fact, these two companies offer almost all of the same services. However, there are a couple of exceptions, like MyCompanyWorks offering virtual office services.
Which Is the Better Service to Form an LLC?
IncFile and MyCompanyWorks offer many of the same business services, but there are some key differences in the way they provide these solutions. Depending on what your priorities and needs are, you may prefer one over the other.
If you’re still undecided, it might help to walk through some scenarios that may sway your decision to either MyCompanyWorks or IncFile.

Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? We’ve got answers.
If I Decide to Use IncFile, Which Package Should I Choose?
Our favorite LLC formation service offering from IncFile is their Silver package, which costs $0 (plus state fee). In this package, you’ll receive a full year of registered agent service in addition to your LLC formation itself.
We actually don’t know of any other service provider that offers the combination of LLC formation and registered agent at a lower price point than IncFile does! If you would prefer to spend a bit more in exchange for some advanced features, their Gold package for $149 is also a good bargain, as it adds EIN obtainment and an operating agreement.
Does IncFile Handle Extra State Requirements Like New York Publication?
Unfortunately, IncFile does not offer publication services in states that require it. We called their customer support team to ask for clarification on this issue, and they told us that publication requirements “need to be taken care of with the state directly.” When quite a few of their competitors (like ZenBusiness) do offer to handle publication and other state-specific steps, it’s a bit of a letdown to find out that IncFile does not.
For what it’s worth, MyCompanyWorks does not offer publication service either, but they do at least provide a set of instructions to help you complete this step on your own.
Which Service Has Fewer Upsells?
MyCompanyWorks and IncFile both avoid overwhelming their customers with upsells, in our opinion. While some competitors go to great lengths to coerce their clients into upgrading to a higher-priced LLC service package, or purchasing advanced features that they don’t really need, these companies don’t bother us in this regard at all.
Do These Services Share My Information With Third Parties?
Both of these companies share your information with a couple of third-party partners, but neither of them takes this to an egregious level, in our opinion.
IncFile has “special offers” on their LLC order form that require sharing or selling your info, like their business bank account offer through Bank of America, and their business website and hosting offer through SnapWeb. As for MyCompanyWorks, they have a very similar deal with Bank of America, and they also offer a domain name and hosting deal through InMotion Hosting.
If privacy is a high priority to you and you want to use one of these companies to form your LLC, you can simply tell them that you’re not interested in these offers. Or, you could take your business to Northwest Registered Agent, a company that never sells your information to anyone.
Does Either of These Services Have a Refund Policy?
MyCompanyWorks has three different processing fees of $25, $50, and $75 that they assess depending on when you request your refund. Obviously, the sooner you request it, the lower the fee. Once they’ve submitted your articles of organization to the state though, you can no longer request a refund.
IncFile is even more restrictive when it comes to refunds. They only provide refunds if you request one before they submit your payment to the state, which they say is typically within 24 hours. Even then, there’s a $30 processing fee. After they’ve sent your money to your state, their refund window is closed.
Which LLC Formation Website Is Faster?
These service providers both base their turnaround times on the ability of each state to process LLC formations, and therefore for the most part they’re pretty close regarding their processing time estimates.
In general, we’ve found that MyCompanyWorks is sometimes a day or two faster than IncFile is in some states, but you should check with them to see if this is the case in your formation state.
Can I Just Form an LLC On My Own, Without a Service?
This is always an option, and many people do choose to use the DIY route to form LLCs. We’re not always fans of this idea though, because each state has a different set of requirements for LLC formations, and it can be a hassle to familiarize yourself with your formation state’s specific rules and regulations if you don’t have experience forming LLCs already.
Also, we love the peace of mind we get from hiring a professional service like MyCompanyWorks or IncFile, because they have the expertise necessary to form a compliant company in an efficient manner.
