Do InCorp and IncFile Offer Good Value?

LLC ServicePriceScoreValueRecommended?
IncFileStarts at $0★★★★★ (4.8/5)ExcellentAbsolutely
InCorpStarts at $117★★★★☆ (3.8/5)GoodYes

We’re big fans of what both of these companies have to offer LLC formation customers, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend either of them. Still, IncFile does have some advantages that make them our preference in most cases.

First and foremost, IncFile offers LLC formations for free, which can obviously save you a considerable amount of money compared to InCorp’s $117 price point. Furthermore, IncFile includes a full year of registered agent service with any LLC formation package, a feature you’ll need to pay extra for with InCorp.

Would you like to dive into the details a bit more before you make your decision? Read on to find all the information you need to make the right choice for your business!

6 Things They Have In Common

1) Affordable: Both of these companies can form your business without costing you an arm and a leg. InCorp and IncFile are capable of saving you hundreds of dollars over hiring a lawyer to draft and file your articles of organization.

2) Customer Service: Saving money is great, but you don’t want to form your LLC all on your own. IncFile and InCorp have extensive customer service networks that are staffed by knowledgeable professionals. They can answer your tough questions quickly, leaving you more time to focus on developing your business.

3) Experience: InCorp and IncFile have long track records of successful business services. They’ve each helped form thousands of companies, and they’re both legitimate operations that you can trust to form your LLC correctly.

4) Customer Reviews: If you prefer to read customer feedback before spending your hard-earned money, InCorp and IncFile have hundreds (or in IncFile’s case, thousands) of reviews across the web. In addition, both companies earn high praise from the majority of their clients.

5) Efficiency: Are you in a hurry to get your LLC formed? No problem! IncFile and InCorp both offer expedited processing options (for an extra cost, of course) that can cut down your turnaround times from weeks to just a couple of days in some states.

6) Additional Services: Will your company require any ongoing compliance tools or additional business services along with your formation? InCorp and IncFile have dozens of other business solutions, from registered agent service to federal tax ID numbers (EIN) and much more.

Side by Side Comparisons

InCorp starts its LLC service at $117 (plus state fee), while IncFile can form your new LLC for $0 + state fee. You certainly don’t need us to tell you that paying nothing is preferable to paying $117, but what’s even more interesting is the fact that we would prefer IncFile even if their prices were the same. As you’ll see in the next section, IncFile provides more value in their free package than InCorp offers in their $117 package, and it’s honestly not even close.

InCorp’s formation package only includes the bare essentials, like a business name availability check and the preparation and filing of your formation documents.

IncFile’s base-level formation package adds a full year of registered agent service at no extra charge. They’ll also throw in lifetime company alerts to inform you of upcoming filing deadlines.

Let’s get this straight: You can save $117 by choosing IncFile over InCorp, and you’ll also receive 12 months of registered agent service and other features. The further we get into this comparison, the more the scales tilt toward IncFile.

InCorp opened in 1998, and they currently have over 125,000 active clients. As for IncFile, they opened for business in 2004 and they’ve helped form 500,000+ businesses.

Customer Support

For the most part, IncFile and InCorp both have very good customer service departments. One area where they differ is in their hours of operation: IncFile is available from 10 am to 7 pm ET on weekdays, but InCorp is open for an extra three hours per day, from 9 am until 9 pm ET Monday through Friday.

Additionally, it’s a bit easier to get in touch with InCorp’s reps, as we have personally experienced wait times of 24+ hours to get a response from IncFile over the phone. When it comes to email, IncFile often does not reply at all, as we’ve sent them several messages that they simply never answered.

Turnaround Times

Both InCorp and IncFile have turnarounds that vary based on the state you want to form an LLC in. In most states, their processing times are quite similar. Both of these service providers also provide expedited service if you’re in a hurry to form your new LLC.

Order Tracking

IncFile has a handy real-time order status tracking tool on their website that shows you exactly what step your formation is currently in at all times. InCorp doesn’t have anything quite that fancy for order tracking, but they do keep your status updated on their website.

Registered Agent Service

Every LLC in America is required to designate a registered agent, which is a person or online business service that receives important document deliveries (like service of process) from your state government, informs you of the receipt, then forwards the documents to you. This is so crucial because the state needs to have a reliable means of contacting your business at any time.

InCorp’s calling card is their excellent rate on registered agent service. Their base rate of $99 is $20 lower than IncFile’s $119 price point, and InCorp offers volume discounts on top of that, which can save you lots of money if you prepay for future years of service:

  • 2 Years: $89.10/year
  • 3 Years: $80.52/year
  • 4 Years: $73.06/year
  • 5+ Years: $66.56/year

Keep in mind though that IncFile includes a full year of registered agent service with any formation package, so their up-front costs are considerably lower than InCorp, seeing as InCorp does not include registered agent service in a bundle with LLC formation.

Customer Reviews

When it comes to customer feedback scores, IncFile truly excels, whereas InCorp is more of a mixed bag. IncFile has nearly 27,000 customer reviews available online, and they still maintain sparkling average review scores. Their clients clearly enjoy their free LLC formation service, and also frequently mention their overall ease of use.

InCorp has around 170 reviews across the internet, and while the majority of this feedback is positive, their average rating scores are dragged down a bit by some negative reviews. Their customers like their great prices on registered agent service, but they’re also frustrated at times by inconsistent services and support.

Ease of Use

Both of these companies make the formation process much easier than going the DIY route. All you’ll need to do in most cases is to provide them with some basic information about your company, and they’ll handle the rest.

We do prefer IncFile’s website over InCorp’s, as it is more convenient to use, but it’s a relatively minor personal preference that doesn’t significantly affect functionality.

Additional Services

Both InCorp and IncFile can help you navigate the business world with a broad selection of additional services, and there is quite a bit of overlap between their offerings. For instance, they both offer registered agent service, foreign qualifications, annual reports, dissolutions, and more.

However, only InCorp offers to help with LLC formation publication service in states that require it (like New York), while only IncFile provides business accounting services.

Which Is the Best LLC Company for You?

InCorp and IncFile are both capable and worthy of forming your new LLC. They’re highly experienced companies that can save you a significant sum over hiring a traditional law firm to handle your formation.

Still, some of you may remain undecided, so let’s wrap up this comparison by outlining a couple of scenarios that might sway your opinion one way or the other.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We’ve got answers.

If I Decide to Use IncFile, Which Package Should I Choose?

Our preferred option of IncFile’s three formation packages is their Silver plan ($0 + state fee). This package is an excellent bargain because it includes a year of registered agent service along with your LLC formation.

This is the most affordable combination of registered agent and formation service that we’re aware of in this entire industry! If you want some more advanced features, we also like their Gold package ($149+ state fee), which adds an operating agreement and EIN acquisition to the foundation of the Silver plan.

Does IncFile Handle Extra State Requirements Like New York Publication?

Unfortunately, they do not. When we called IncFile’s customer service reps to ask them about this, they told us that they don’t handle publication requirements because they “need to be taken care of with the state directly.”

Especially considering that many of their competitors (like InCorp and ZenBusiness) do provide publication service, this is a rare misstep for IncFile.

How Does IncFile Compare to Other Incorporation Services?

Would you like to take a look at a few other options? Check out our comparisons of IncFile to other top-rated LLC services:

Which Service Has Fewer Upsells?

We feel like both of these companies do a good job of minimizing their upsell attempts. Due to the fact that InCorp only has one LLC formation package available, they do have a somewhat lengthy list of additional services on their order form, but it feels logical, and not like something we’d refer to as an upsell.

Do These Services Share My Information With Third Parties?

InCorp does not do this, but IncFile does. As you fill out the LLC formation service order form on their website, IncFile presents you with two “special offers” that require sharing your personal information with their third-party partners. Specifically, their business bank account offer is presented through Bank of America, and their web hosting offer is a deal with SnapWeb.

Does Either of These Services Have a Refund Policy?

IncFile’s refund policy is quite restrictive, so you should make sure you know what you want before placing your order with them. They only provide refunds if you request one before they’ve sent payment to your state, which is usually within 24 hours. There is a $30 cancellation fee attached to any refunded order. Once they’ve submitted your payment to the state, there are no refunds available.

InCorp gives you a full 60 days to request a refund, which is obviously preferable. They do still charge a $29 fee for most refunds though.

Which LLC Formation Website Is Faster?

InCorp and IncFile have very similar filing times because they both base their estimates on the ability of each state to process LLC formations. While InCorp might have a slight advantage in some states, with IncFile being a day or two faster in others, for the most part, there is no difference between them in this area.

Can I Just Form an LLC On My Own, Without a Service?

The DIY route is always an option, and plenty of entrepreneurs do form their own LLCs in this fashion.

The main reason we don’t tend to recommend this option to our readers is that the rules and regulations for forming LLCs vary by state, and it can be a pretty significant hassle to learn the intricacies of your state’s requirements. Also, the peace of mind we get from hiring a professional service like InCorp or IncFile helps us rest easy knowing that our LLC was formed correctly by experts.
